Four rings and two engines: In Geneva, the study shows Audi A8 hybrid his ideas of a clean upper class. The concept car brings it to 245 hp system performance and will consume only 6.2 liters of gasoline.
The power source for the electric motor sits in the rear of the A8, and consists of a lithium-ion battery with a 1.3 kWh capacity. Despite the space taken by the battery, the trunk still gets 400 liters of cargo capacity. To save power, the Audi A8 uses hybrid even further into the bag of tricks: For example, the air conditioning compressor is not driven by the combustion engine, but purely electric, as well as power steering and power brakes. At start both motors work together, from 65 km / h the Combustion takes over completely. During braking and coasting, the electric unit is working as a generator and charges the batteries. If necessary, the hybrid luxury liner, but also casual: Is the driver’s throttle, the electric motor acts as a short “booster” and the A8 surges forward with full 480 Nm of torque.
