Volvo is for many the epitome of safety. In the late 50s, Volvo was the first manufacturer who had a vehicle equipped as standard with three-point seat belts. The other safety equipment, especially the side protection of the Swedish cars is exemplary.
The Volvo V40 model will get a new generation in 2017, which will be developed on a platform that the Swedish are working with Geely, the Chinese company that bought the brand.
The new Volvo V40 2017 will be a model developed in collaboration with Geely, the Chinese company that owns the Volvo brand and the V40 range includes several models. In the first phase, the V40 will have a five-door crossover, a hatchback and a sedan.
Subsequently, Volvo may launch several body styles based on that platform, all belonging in the premium compact segment.
Geely will use the newly created platform to build, in turn, compact models , but they do not belong to the premium segment .
The future compact model from Volvo will have a modular architecture , called C-segment Modular Architecture that allows more body configurations and several sizes. In addition, this architecture can be used by people from Geely to build less sophisticated models that will not benefit from the technological and safety features that Volvo cars have. The Chinese will reduce costs to a minimum by equipping the model that less advanced engines, less complex suspensions and simpler design .
The new platform is already in progress at China Euro Vehicle Technology, a center that brings together specialists from both brands, opened last year in Goteborg near the headquarters of Volvo.
Heico Sportiv has revealed details of its package of tuning for Volvo S60. Its top version develops 330 hp and 463 Nm with Heico package and is one second quicker in acceleration 0-100 km / h over the standard model.
The Tuning kit includes changes both to the exterior and improvements in dynamic performance. Heico engineers made the 2.0T and T6 engine’s S60 2.0 turbo unit developing 47 hp and 50 Nm for instance, while the T6 version provides a total of 330 hp and 463 Nm. Heico Sportiv officials announced that they are working on packages for models T3, T4 and T5 S60’s.
In the altered version S60 2.0T develops’s total of 297 hp and 350 Nm. The strongest version of the S60 has an acceleration of 5.8 seconds from 0-100 km / h, which means that the package Heico 330 hp and 463 Nm makes it faster with one second to the standard version. The maximum speed of this model is electronically limited to 250 km / h.
Aesthetic changes are shrinking at a two-piece bumper to bumper, a rear diffuser made from carbon fiber and a spoiler on the trunk lid. This is the new Volvo design: Dynamic like never before and equipped with brand new safety extras. The New Volvo S60 is rolling out at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.
Broad shoulders, strong wedge shape and a coupé-like lines make the middle-class limousine probably the most dynamic Volvo ever. This is what equips it to fight against Germany’s top dogs Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class. The short overhangs and wide C-pillars give the Swedish car a very sporty feeling. The S60 is the world’s first car with a collision warning system including automatic emergency braking and pedestrian safety. It recognizes pedestrians suddenly running into the street, and thus avoids collisions up to a speed of 35 km / h.
Moreover, the new Volvo S60 is the first sedan in the market which drives up the so-called Advanced Stability Control. Thanks to a new tilt-sensor it is possible to detect any danger of erupting at a very early stage, and take action. We have a curve-Traction Control (Traction Control Corner) braking in curves, the inner drive wheel, while the circle-wheel receives more driving. Thus, faster cornering should be possible and the tendency to oversteer is reduced.
Not particularly fond of the cockpit, although it has that little something, i can’t put my finger on, that makes me wanna say i hate it but i also love it. With all this technology and materials available these days, it seems that they went out of their way to make the dashboard simple and ’80s looking.
Also in the Volvo engine draws on its resources: top engine is a turbocharged three-liter gasoline engine with 304 hp and 440 Nm of torque. It is combined with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive AWD. 6.5 seconds from rest to 100 stand for the T6 on the sheet, at 250 km / h, electronically limited top speed. Among these ranks, a new two-liter gasoline engine GTDI (stands for “Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection”) with four cylinders and 203 hp, which is to be stingy, despite the high power consumption. Makes possible the high performance, despite the smaller displacement, a new technology developed by Volvo Turbo in combination with direct injection and variable camshaft control Double-VVT (variable valve timing). The maximum torque of 320 Nm is available from 1750 rpm. Consumption? Less than eight liters, says Volvo. Later followed by a two-liter turbo (240 hp) and a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 180 hp.
Being a diesel or a 2.4-liter five-cylinder bi-turbo with 205 hp and 420 Nm (235 km / h, 7.8 seconds to 100 km / h) and a two-liter five-cylinder will be with 163 hp and 400 Nm (220 km / h, 9.2 seconds to 100 km / h) in the price list are available. Volvo gives a consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 kilometers for the top diesel, the smaller diesels will be satisfied with 5.2 liters. Even more savings potential carries the 1.6-liter DRIVe with 115 hp, which consumes 4.3 liters. Inside, the S60 is Scandinavian-cool with a driver-oriented cockpit, including including installed Navi screen in the rear, passengers will have 30 mm more legroom. Also new is the infotainment system in which information, the navigation, phone and audio system are displayed on a color monitor. It is controlled by pressing buttons on the steering wheel.
Customers must wait until September 2010, before the Volvo S60 is rolling out to dealers. After all, the prices are fixed. Prices for the Volvo S60 start at 27,000 euros, that’s the least amount you need to spend so you can have the smart Swedish car in your garage.
The S60 is the world’s first car with a collision warning system including automatic emergency braking and pedestrian safety. It recognizes people on the street to avoid running them over with an ability to react a lot faster than a human.
